At age 6 Joost starts his classical pianolessons at the music school in Hilversum. Because his father is a drummer/percussionist there was always a drumkit around, so Joost could discover his talents on different instruments. After seven years he trades the piano lessons for the bass guitar, the instrument that got him into bands quickly. At that time already experimenting with recording and composing songs (eurovision kids-songfestival, the big music day (Doelen Rotterdam)). Playing in different party, musical and jazz bands both in and outside school he discovered a passion for the bass guitar. Inspired by bass players like Mark King, Victor Wooten and Stanley Clarcke there’s a whole lot of slapping going on!!
After high school Joost studies Law for two years but music was to big a passion to keep as a hobby. So in 2007, studying Audio Engineering at the SAE institute in Amsterdam was the right choice, gaining experience at a professional level. An intensive year of studying results in graduating in 2008 with an 8,3 average. A month after graduating joost gets a job at Earforce (music/advertising studios). At Earforce Joost experiences real workload and deadlines. Engineering for voice over recordings, doing post-production for film and composing music to specific briefings from advertising agencies. In six months Joost has recorded and composed music for the commercials of Kentucky Fried Chicken, Actimel, Canon and many others. Examples of these compositions can be found on the music page. Joost has worked at Earforce for six months before going back to studying at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam.
On the side Joost is writing, recording and producing songs both for himself as for others. Songs like “100 % student” can be found on youtube (26000 views) and on the music page. It has even been played on Dutch national radio! Also, all productions of the band MacAlistair are produced by Joost.
Currently, Joost is doing an internship at Radio Veronica.
